Banknotes of the second series are considered as the first original banknotes during the reign of shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Although the style of the banknotes didi not change any but the design and patterns are updated. In this issue, the national emblem of the Lion & Sun is not printed on any of the banknotes. Size of the banknotes is still as large as the previous series. Denominations are 50, 100, 500 & 1000 Rials.

Obverse: Portrait of the young Shah.
Reverse: Tomb of Cyrus the Great in Pasargad.

100 Rials
Reverse: A ancient bridge in Dezful (South west of Iran) - Sassanid era (Circa 600 A.D.)

500 Rials
Reverse: Tchara palace of Darisus the great in Persepolis, Archaemenid era (Circa 500 B.C.)

1000 Rials
Reverse: A scene from mount Damaavand.
