From 1991 to 1993, three new issues are added to previous ones. These issues are not new denominations, but just a reprint. Denominations of 5000 & 10000 Rls. are reprinted with a new style as the old ones were more susceptible to be faked, but there is no convincing reason for the release of the new 1000 Rials banknotes except for mentioning the portrait of Ayatollah Khomeini on it, especially as the general appearance of the banknote has not changed any.
1000 Rials
This banknote completely resembles the old issue and only the view of the Feizi'ya school in Qom is replaced with the portrait of Ayatollah Khomeini.
5000 Rials
The
style of the banknote is far different from the previous series and looks like
European styles. On the other hand the paper and colors are not the same as the
old issues.
Front: Portrait of Ayatollah Khomeini both on the banknote and in
the watermark field. The emblem of the central bank of Iran is printed in the
small empty space on the left side (hardly seen here) .
Back: Golomorgh (flower & bird) painting picked out from Persian
miniatures. Such drawings were used on the cover of the holy Koran in Qajar era.
10000 Rials
Although this banknote is no more the same as the previous issues but it has the
same style as the 5000 Rials banknote described above, especially on the front
side.
Back: Image of the mount Damaavand (5671 m) in
Tehran province
