Era of Ahmad Shah Qajar
1909 - 1925

Ahmad Shah Qajar, the last king of the dynasty, reigned for about 16 years. He reigned with regent from 1909 to 1914, when he reached the legal age and crowned as the King of Persia. Therefore coins of this period are categorized into 2 groups: Before & after the coronation.

The coins that are minted before his coronation resemble the coins of Mohammad Ali Shah's era. They have the emblem of the Lion & sun with the Kiani crown on one side and the script surrounded by a wreath of laurels on the other side. The Farsi script is: " Alsultan-e Sultan , Ahmad Shah Qajar" or The son of a king, Shah Ahmad Qajar.

Later, after the coronation of Ahmad Shah Qajar, his bust was minted on the coins with a Farsi script above it saying: "Assoltaan, Ahmad Shah-e Qajar, Shaahanshaah-e Iran" (The sultan Ahmad Shah Qajar, king of kings of Iran). In these series, there are some minor changes in the appearance of the Kiani crown and the date is minted on the obverse of the coin. Coins of issue are found in denominations of 250, 500, 1000, 2000 & 5000 Dinars, all made of silver and 1 &2 Toomaan coin in gold. Minor denominations (<250 D) were made of copper and were used more by ordinary people, thus good condition samples are found rarely. Remind you that the 250 Dinars coin ( called Rob'e or one quarter) did not have the portrait on reverse but the script.
