The second coin series of the Islamic Republic of Iran are in circulation since 1992. In this series, all coins were designed in a completely different style which did not resemble the previous series anymore. In this series of coinage, denominations of 1, 2 and 20 Rls. were omitted and the new 250 Rls. coin was added for the first time. This 250 Rls. coin is the first Iranian bimetallic coin that is ever minted with modern technology in Iran. The current denominations are 5, 10, 50,100 & 250 Rials. Although new series are released in October 2004, but these coins are still accepted through the country. The last mintage of this series is dated 2003 (1383 A.H.).
