Reverse :  Mecca, the holy mosque.
Watermark: Allah emblem on first issues & profile of   Mohammad Fahmideh.

This denomination is printed for the first time.


 

5000 Rials

First issue: 1981
Edited reprint: 1983
Obverse: Demonstrations of the Islamic revolution.
Reverse :  Qom, the holy shrine of Hazrat Masoomeh (Sister of Imam Reza, the 8th Shiite Muslim leader) .
Watermark: The Allah emblem on all issues.


    As shown above, later series of this banknotes (Middle) differ in some parts from the early issues (Top). There are some minor differences in the line of demonstrators, the portrait of Imam Khomeini and to some degrees, the color used in the main field. On the other hand, the perspective of demonstrators in the back ground of the signatures' field is deleted. The most significant change is the deletion of the emblem of the Islamic revolution at the top left corner. Early issues were signed by Abolhassan Banisadr as the minister of Wealth & finance who later became the First president of the Islamic Republic who later fled to France. Reverse images are the same in both issues. First issue banknotes are 1.5 fold more expensive than later series.
